Obituary:
Vernon "Komar" Craig, age 78, of Wilmot, passed away, Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Brenn-Field Nursing Center in Orrville following a period of declining health. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, 2284 Benden Dr., Wooster with Bishop Clark Johns officiating followed by interment at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville. Visitation will be Thursday at the funeral home from 6 - 9 p.m.and one hour prior to services on Friday. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at: www.custerglenn.com. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to: Custer-Glenn Funeral Home to help defray costs. He was born in Rockdale, Ohio on January 7, 1932 to Orville and Leona (Thomas) Craig. He married Ruth Troyer on January 13, 1956 in Orrville. She passed away December, 2000. He started working at the Alpine Alpa in Holmes County as a Cheese Maker and Sales Manager and then with the College of Wooster as Head of the Grounds and Landscaping. Soon he went to work for the Kennedy Foundation in Washington, D.C. on the committee that set-up The Special Olympics Program for the Mentally Handicapped on an international basis and was co-director for 5 states. His real love was preforming as "Komar" that occupied most of his life. He started in 1963 presenting to many groups and organizations in and around Wooster. Soon, it started to spread to neighboring communities, states and then throughout 100 countries and most of the provinces of Canada.He was also inducted into the Guinness Book Of World Records. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Massillon; was an avid gardener and most of all enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Vicki L. Craig of Wooster, Scott Craig of Wooster and Brenda L. (Dave) Nussbaum of Orrville; 4 grandchildren, Lucas, Mitch and Heather Moffit and Conn Craig; 2 great-grandchildren; siblings, Yvonne Royse of Salt Lake City Utah, Robert Craig of Sarasota, Florida and Donna (Bennie) Barnes of North Port, Florida; numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and wife.
