Donald R. Bertsch, age 92, of Smithville, peacefully passed away, Monday morning, July 26th, 2010 at Smithville-Western Care Center in Wooster. It was his wishes for cremation and to have a private family service gathering at a later date. Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, in Wooster is privileged with serving the family. He was born in Glenmont, Ohio on March 7, 1918 to Walter A. and Emma (McFadden) Bertsch. He served as Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Corps. during WWII from February 12, 1941 - December 26, 1945. He married Luella (Clark) on October 20, 1941 in Glendale, Arizona. She survives. He worked in the Custodial Dept. for the Green Local School System at Smithville for 20 years before retiring in 1982. They moved from the Killbuck area to Wooster in 1951; was Charter Member of the Killbuck VFW; enjoyed camping and being with family and most of all enjoyed spending time with all of his grandchildren. He is survived by 3 sons, Michael (Wendy) Bertsch of Millersburg, David (Nancy) Bertsch of Abilene, Texas and Patrick (Lisa) Bertsch of Wooster; 5 grandchildren, Jeffrey, Wayne, Julie Bertsch, Andrea Gerber and Melissa Bertsch; 2 great-grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren, Richard and Kelly Schofield, Amy Voss and Mark Mullen; a nephew, Eric Spurgeon; a sister-in-law, Jean Spurgeon. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a half-brother, Dale Spurgeon and step-father, Riley Spurgeon.
