Obituary for Charles D. "Doug" Steinman

Charles D. "Doug" Steinman, age 80, of Smithville, passed away, Friday, May 12, 2023 at Wooster Community Hospital following a brief illness.

Charles was born on January 21, 1943 to Charles E. and Esther (Stroh) Stenman.

He graduated from Loudonville High School in 1961.

Charles later married Phyllis Scheibe on December 20, 1969. She preceded him in death on December 6, 2022.

Throughout his years, he worked at the Flxible Company and then for Rubbermaid before retiring in 2000.

In his spare time, he enjoyed tinkering around in the garage, frequenting his favorite restaurants, going on scenic drives. and attending gospel events. He was a dad and a friend to all, and he was loved by many. He was also known for his celebrated cookouts.

Charles is survived by a son, Eric (Jen) Steinman; a daughter, Holly (Johnny) Lutsch; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was also an honorary dad to Rick Hoff, Sheri Howard and Tammie Roby; a sister, Betty Markel and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and beloved wife, Phyllis, he is preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Cathy Scheibe and a brother-in-law, Robert Markel.

Funeral Services will take place on Thursday, May 18, 2023, 12:00 pm. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home in Wooster with Pastor Joel Yates officiating followed by burial at Sherwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Wooster.

Visitation for family and friends will be 2 hours ( 10:00am - 12:00pm) prior to services on Thursday at the funeral home.
