Obituary for Dick Almon Akers

Dick Almon Akers, age 73, of Wooster, entered into rest, Sunday, May 9, 2021 at Cleveland Clinic Medina Hospital in Medina after a period of declining health. His family was by his side.

He was born on October 30, 1947 in Akron, Ohio to Sidney Workman and Mabel Arvaline (Harless) Akers.

He served in the US Army from November 19, 1968 - November 18, 1970.

He married Glenda Sue Mullins on August 6, 1968 in Mount Airy, NC. She survives.

Dick was the founder of Akers Signs in Canton, Ohio and he also founded Sign Makers, LLC and Envirosigns in Marshallville.

He was a long-standing member of Stark County Bicycle Club and was proud to cycle up to 6,000 miles a year; was a mentor for Project Wheelbarrow of Canton, Reformers Unanimous, and worked with at-risk youth at halfway houses and detention centers.

In addition to his beloved wife, Glenda Sue Akers, he is survived by his children, Richard W. (Tere) Akers of Farmers Branch, TX., Lynn M. (Jamie) McSheehy-Inks of Wooster, Stephen M. Akers of Canton; 2 grandchildren, Jack and Luke McSheehy; and a sister, Arva (Eugene) Stump of Canton, Ohio and many cousins.

His parents preceded him in death.

It was his previous wishes that there be no public services.

A private inurnment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

A Celebration of His Life will take place on August 14th.
