Obituary for Dorothy E. "Dort" Schaffter (Murray)

Dorothy E. "Dort" Schaffter, age 95, of Wooster, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, February 1, 2021 at Wayne County Care Center following a period of declining health.

She was born on December 20, 1925 in Sterling, Ohio to Tully B. and Neva F. (Rennecker) Murray and has been a Wayne County resident for all of her life.

She married Eugene W. Schaffter on June 12, 1943 in Richmond, IN. He went home to be with the Lord on December 16, 2002.

Dort had previously worked for Rubbermaid in Wooster as a Press Operator & Packer for 20 years before retiring in 1987.

She was an active member of Highland Church of God in Wooster; she was a devoted homemaker who also enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid walker; enjoyed crocheting and for 10 years, worked for the William Annat Co. where she made draperies. She enjoyed singing, writing poetry and loved to whistle.

She is survived by her children, Lanny Dean (Linda Lee) Schaffter of Apple Creek, Oh., Marilyn "Tootie" (Harold) Lindenmeyer of Wooster, and Leonard "Butch" (Harriet May) Schaffter of Rittman, Oh.; 9 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren and a sister, Marilyn J. (Ray) Aspinall of Orrville, Oh.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her sons, Larry Eugene and Lloyd W. "Corky" Schaffter; brothers, Adin L., Wayne E., Kenneth D. and David W. Murray; sisters, Helen I Steiner and Grace E. Murray and numerous friends.

Due to the current pandemic and for the safety of others, there will be private services to take place at the convenience of the family. A memorial service for the public will be scheduled at a later date.

Burial will take place at Rittman Cemetery.
