Obituary for Edward R. Beck

"Together Again"


Edward R. Beck, age 79, of Smithville, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, July 29, 2021 at Ohio's Hospice LifeCare in Wooster following a period of declining health. His loving family was by his side.

He was born on February 14, 1942 in Wooster to Raymond and Geraldine (Schaffer) Beck and has been a Wooster resident for all of his life.

He married Virginia C. Baab in Beaver Falls, Pa. in 1959. She went home to be with the Lord on May 20, 2019.

He previously worked as a Machinist and Tool & Die Maker for many years. Edward taught at the Wayne County Schools Career Center in the Machine Trades Dept. for 6 years. He then worked for Wayne Machine Shop where he retired after many years of service.

He was a member of Grace Church in Wooster; was considered both a Master woodworker and craftsman who enjoyed building numerous custom pieces including lamps for his family and friends. He also enjoyed fixing things around the house and according to his family was a man with deep integrity and was the "glue" that kept the family flowing together. He mostly loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Laura Hoffman of Smithville and Douglas E. (DeAnn) Beck of Chester, SC; grandchildren, Dan C. (Rachel) Hoffman and Valorie L. Hill all of Smithville, Paula Machovina of Wooster and Victoria Beck; great-grandchildren, Joselyn, Daniel, Ellie, Kayla and Addie; a brother-in-law, Dave (Lynne) Baab of Seattle, WA., Brandon Clark who was like a grandson to him and his faithful canine companion, "Queenie".

In addition to his parents and beloved wife, he is preceded in death by his sister, Marge Martin, a brother-in-law, Raymond Martin and a sister-in-law, Connie.

Services will take place on Monday, 12:00 p.m. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home in Wooster with Pastor Steve Kern officiating followed by interment at Wooster Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior (11:00 - 12:00 p.m.) to the services on Monday at the funeral home.
