Obituary for George S. Ramsier

George S. Ramsier, age 89, of Wooster, went Home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 16, 2022 at Ohio's Hospice LifeCare in Wooster following a short period of declining health.

He was born on December 27, 1932 in a small shack in a holler in West Virginia. He was the youngest of five boys. His brothers included Ben, John, Lew, and Jack Ramsier.

In 1938, George was placed in the Children’s Home in Wooster. It was there that Miss Fern taught George about Jesus and he was shown care and love from a man he came to admire, Paul Kinney. At the age of 10, George was placed on a farm where Fritz Crone would become the father figure who would teach George how to work and care for animals. At 16, he went to live with his brother, Ben, and his family.

George graduated from Creston High School where he shined on the baseball field. He pitched a no-hitter, two one-hitters, and a two-hitter against Roy Bates’ Huskies in the Wayne County Baseball Championship. He led his team with a .500 batting average his junior and senior years and even hit four home runs in a game. George made the first All-Star County Baseball Team.

On April 29, 1961, George married the love of his life, Norma Jean Morr. The first time he laid eyes on her he knew he would marry her one day. Mom and Dad were married almost 60 years.

During the next six years four daughters would follow: Kimberly Ramsier, Beverly (Del) Miller, Susan (Scott) Boyes, and Peggy (Thad) Keener. Grandchildren include Emily (Ryan) Chenevey, Rachael Boyes, Rudy Keener, Daniel Boyes, Matthew Miller, Samuel Keener, Rebecca Miller, Nathan Miller, Phoebe Keener, and Ben Miller. One great grandchild includes Charlotte Chenevey and a very special caregiver and friend, Marie Rutter.

George retired from Rexroth as a tool maker after 36 years. Five men who played an influential part in Dad‘s life were: Denton Fuller, Ben Ramsier, Fritz Crone, Paul Kinney, and Ford Snell.

Dad had much admiration for his mother-in-law, Ethel Morr, whom he affectionately called, “Mom”.

Our Dad was a man of God who lived out the qualities of faithfulness, forgiveness, strength, and courage. He was the epitome of a faithful husband and dad who was always there for his family. There was never a question of where Dad‘s loyalties lie. Dad had a relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and so on Sunday, January 16, 2022, Dad entered the gates of Heaven. He spoke often of those he was excited to see again. What Hope he had! Now it’s been claimed! Dad was the pillar of our family and his presence is sorely missed.

We are thankful for Dr. Mark Stutzman and his staff along with Hospice nurses Megan, Fonda, and Nicole for their special care of Dad.

A Service of Celebration will take place on Saturday, January 29, at 1 p.m. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home 2284 Benden Dr. in Wooster. with Rev. Chris Radojcsics officiating. Burial will follow at Rittman Apostolic Cemetery.

The family will receive friends (while practicing social distancing) one and a half hours prior (11:30-1:00) to the service at the funeral home. The service will be live streamed on Custer-Glenn Funeral Home Facebook page.

Dad‘s wishes were that individuals not send flowers, therefore, memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Ohio's Hospice LifeCare, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.

LifeCare Hospice served our family well through both our mom and dad‘s passing. Please carefully consider giving to this wonderful organization that we are blessed to have in our community.
