Obituary for Harold A. Fry
Harold A. (aka. Johnny Appleseed) Fry, age 87, of Apple Creek, entered into rest on Monday, April 1, 2019 at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster following an extended illness. He was surrounded by his family.
He was born on August 30, 1931 in Wooster on the family farm to Charles Lewis and Mable Bertha (Schnell) Fry and has been a Wooster resident for all of his life.
Harold served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from November 1951 - November 1953.
He married Janice A. Mullet on June 3, 1956 by Janice's great uncle, the Rev. Paul Clark in Bluffton, Ohio. She survives.
Harold had worked for many years as a self employed Dairy Farmer before his retirement after many years of service. Following his retirement, he had worked for FJ Designs (Cats Meow Village) for the next 17 years.
He had served as the Johnny Appleseed mascot for over over 30 years at the Johnny Appleseed Days parades in Apple Creek; he was a very active member of Moreland United Methodist Church of which he also participated in The Mothers and Daughters Banquet; He was an outstanding 50 year plus member with East Union Grange and the Valley College Grange and helped out at the Grange Hall at the Wayne County Fair for many years. In 2002 they were honored as the Citizen Of The Year for the Apple Creek Elementary School PTO.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his children, Faline (Darcy) Pajak of Apple Creek, Ted (Tina) Fry of Apple Creek, Danny (Lori) Fry and Eddie P. Fry all of Wooster; 7 grandchildren, Emily, Kelsey, Grace, Tad, Toni, Tia and Geddy; 8 great-grandchildren, Dallas, Drystan, Riikka, Kala, Gabriel, Trilby, Sarah and Carter and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, and brother-in-law, Ruth (Alton) Hahn.
Services will take place on Friday, 2:00 p.m. at Moreland United Methodist Church in Moreland with Pastor Tom Fish officiating followed by interment at Apple Creek Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by The 555th Honors Detachment.
Visitation will be two hours prior (12:00 -2:00 p.m.) prior to services at the church.
The family has invited everyone for a time of fellowship and food back at the church following the services.
