James Edward Evans, age 74, of Wooster, passed away on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Wooster Community Hospital following a brief illness.
James was born in Portsmouth, Va. to Westley Curtis and Rosalene ( Ester ) Evans and has been a Wayne County resident for most of his life.
He had previously served in the US Marine Corps and then worked as a mechanic for many years prior to his retirement after many years of service.
He was a member of New Life Assembly Church in Wooster and was involved with Community Action of Wayne County; enjoyed flying kites and working on vehicles; playing chess and puzzles. He mostly loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Keeba Evans of Wooster; 5 grandchildren; a great-grandson, Aurelius Evans; sisters, Ruth Silvers of Portsmouth, Va., Dorothy Pearson of Ga. and Nancy Johnkin of Portsmouth, Va.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his 3 brothers, Richard Evans, Sonny Evans and Vernon Evans.
Services will be on Saturday, January 8, 2022, 3:00 p.m. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, 2284 Benden Dr., in Wooster with Pastor Sonny Webb officiating.
Visitation will be 1 hour prior ( 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.) to services at the funeral home.
A private interment will follow at a later date at the convenience of the family.
