Obituary for Joann B. "Jo" Leighty (Warren)

Joann B. "Jo" Leighty, age 87, of Wooster, went home to be with her Lord, Thursday morning, August 6, 2020 at the Avenue Nursing Center in Wooster where she had resided since April 2018.

She was born on February 25, 1933 in Bowling Green, Ohio to Frank S. and Edith Rachel (Schriber) Warren.

She then attended BGSU and Toledo School of Nursing.

Joann married Donald E. Leighty on May 24, 1973. He went home to be with the Lord on June 11, 2018.

She had worked for several state and federal facilities including OSU Extension, Soil and Water Conservation, College of Wooster, Treasurers Office, Human Resources, Apple Creek Developmental Center, and upon retirement worked at Up-Town & Down Town Antique Emporium.

Over the years, she has been a 4H Advisor, Sunday School Teacher, PTA President and Member of National Muzzle Loader, Killbuck Long Rifles and Ivory Mountain (Primitive Family Camping) for over 25 years.
Joann has been a lover of all animals, especially with her constant and loving companion, yellow lab of 13 years, "Daisy Sue".

She enjoyed collecting ceramic birds and squirrel figures; was an avid reader but mostly loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Thomas A. (Joyce) Bishop of Leavenworth, Kansas and Sandy J. (Danny) Reed of North Lawrence, Ohio; grandchildren, Matthew Bishop of Wichita, Kansas, Sherri Bishop of Kidron, Ohio, Megan Reed of Nelsonville, Ohio and Ryan Reed of Dalton, Ohio; 3 great-grandchildren, Ava, Samuel & Levi; her first husband, Robert R. Bishop of Ava, Missouri; 4 step-children, Mark (Connie) Leighty of Fredericksburg, Ohio, Mike (Anne) Leighty of Wooster, Lisa Glascow of Cleveland, Ohio, Amber (Rob) Tidwell of Villa Rica, Georgia, and 6 step-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband Donald,she is preceded in death by her sister, Billie Violand.

Graveside services will be on Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. at Sherwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Pastor Randy Moomaw officiating.

There will be no public viewing.
