Obituary for John W. Holley Sr.

John W. Holley, Sr, age 80, of Wooster, peacefully passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at Life Care Hospice in Wooster. His family was by his side.

He was born on October 4, 1939 in Kenova, W.Va. to Sherman and Opal (Steele) Holley.

He started his public safety career back home in Kenova W.Va. out of a one truck fire house in 1959, where he served as a volunteer firefighter until he was drafted into the US Army in August 1963.

Following his discharge in August 1965, he moved to Wayne County Ohio where he established lifelong roots.

John had worked for Volvo GM in Orrville before retiring after 25 years of service.

He served the community throughout Wayne County as a firefighter, law enforcement officer, and EMT for a combined total of 61 years before retiring from Apple Creek Volunteer Fire and EMS in 1997 as their EMS Chief.

He was a blue collar worker all his life and was a dedicated and devoted father, grandfather and big brother.

John was a long time member of the NRA and a long time member of West Hill Baptist Church in Wooster.

He is survived by his son, John W. Holley, Jr. of Apple Creek and fiance, Vicki Feller of Massillon; a grandson, Jordan Holley of Apple Creek; a sister, Sandra Holley of Kenova, W. Va. and a niece and nephew, Chris (Minetta) Moore of Milton, W. Va. and Tracie Holley of Catlettsburg, Ky.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his infant grandson, Michael James Holley; a brother, Sherman Michael "Mikey" Holley; a sister, Mary Ruth "Sissy" Pelfrey and brother-in-law, Roger Pelfrey.

Visitation will be Tuesday at West Hill Baptist Church in Wooster from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m..

Services will be Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor Eric Fairhurst officiating.

Burial will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman at the convenience of the family.

Custer-Glenn Funeral Home in Wooster is honored with serving the family.

The family would like to give a special mention to main campus Cleveland Clinic, Dr Kevin Stephans and the inpatient oncology unit as well as the amazing Dr.'s and staff at Lifecare Hospice for the amazing love and compassion they showed to dad during the time they took care of him. The family is forever grateful.
