Obituary

Pastor John H. Vance, age 70, of Wooster, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, January 17, 2020 at his residence following a long illness. His beloved wife and family was by his side.

He was born in Logan, W. Va. on January 19, 1949 to Everette and Martha (Crank) Vance and has been a Rittman and Wooster resident for most of his life.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict and married Teresa A. Kaufman. She survives.

He previously worked as a Lineman for the railroad for over 10 years; was a member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Wooster; enjoyed painting and the outdoors which also included hunting and fishing. He mostly loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his children, Josh Vance of CA., Holly Vance of W. Va., Rosell (Sandra) Tennant of Ky., Donald (Jackie) Tennant of Pa. and Rosell "Harold" Tennant of Wooster; 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bishop Charles (Sharon) Vance of Rittman and Bishop Bob (Nancy) Vance of Fl.; many nieces and nephews and a special niece, Connie Dobbs of Wooster; his faithful canine companions, "Sassy" and "Lilly".

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his great-grandson, Elisha Tennant; brothers, Buddy Vance, James Vance, and Bill Vance; his sister, Anna Thompson.

Services will be Thursday, 11:00 a.m. at the Apostolic Pentecostal Church, 3030 S. Columbus Rd., in Wooster. Burial will follow at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman where military honors will be rendered.

Visitation will be one hour prior (10:00 - 11:00 a.m.) to services at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the funeral home to help defray funeral expenses.
