Obituary for John Wendell

John J. Wendell, age 86, of Wooster, went home to be with the Lord, on Sunday, December 5th at his residence following a period of declining health. His family was by his side.

John was born on August 23, 1935 in Cleveland, Ohio to John Joseph, Sr. and Anna (Gildea) Wendell.

John had served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1954 - 1957. He married Donna M. Glatzhofer in Cleveland on October 4, 1958. She survives.

While residing in the Cleveland area, he served as a Captain with the Cleveland Fire Department for many years, he was also a union master plumber and worked for Litt’s Plumbing Co.

John had then resided in the Medina area before moving to Wooster in 1999.

He was a member of St. Mary of Immaculate Conception Church in Wooster; he had been a lifelong member of the Viking Club and enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his children, John J Wendell, of Colorado, Michael Paul Wendell, of Colorado, Theresa Ann Wendell, of Medina, and James Steven Wendell, of Medina.
He is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Jacqueline Marie Wendell, of Akron, Theresa Maria Wendell, of Wooster, Laura Donna Wendell, of Toledo, Cooper Maxwell Bilek, of Shreve, Kyle Andrew Pindor, of Parma, Michael James Pindor, of Parma, Sophia Kate Wendell, of Colorado, Jack Henry Wendell, of Colorado, and Virginia Wendell, of Florida.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Lucarelli.

John was a selfless man who cared for others more than himself. He was very dedicated to his Catholic faith which was practiced and lived by example. John was an outstanding man, he was very welcoming and more than willing to invite people into his home. He was a great husband, a loving father, a devoted grandfather, and a lifelong friend.

A Memorial Mass of Catholic Burial will take place on Monday, 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of Immaculate Conception Church with Rev. Fr. Richard Samide officiating.

A private Inurnment will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.

Custer-Glenn Funeral Home in Wooster is honored with serving the Wendell family.
