Melissa Doan, age 53, of Wooster, entered joyfully into the Lord's presence on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital. Her family was by her side.

Melissa was born in Sweetwater, TX. to Darrel David and Deverise (Crouch- Ohre) Brown.

She married Stephen O. Doan on February 20, 1993 in Mansfield.

She moved from Mansfield to Wooster in 1993 and became a stay-at-home mother who raised and homeschooled her children for over 20 years.

After raising her children, Melissa went back to school to complete her BSN Degree (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) and then worked as a Registered Nurse for Dunlap Family Physicians in Orrville.

She was a member of the Church Of The Saviour in Wooster; enjoyed gardening and traveling but mostly loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren.

Melissa embodied the endless love and compassion of Jesus Christ. She was a bright light to all who knew her. Melissa lived wholeheartedly in her assurance of hope in the Lord, as it is written in 1 Peter 1:13: “Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.” As she often said, Melissa lived the most blessed life this world had to offer.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Devra D. Doan of Columbus, Oh., Daniel D. (Elizabeth Hickman) Doan of Granville, Oh., Hannah J. (Michael R.) Morgan of LaGrange, IL., and Evan C. Doan of Wooster; grandchildren, Ellory, Ariana and Josephine; sisters, Tanya (Brian) Zeigler of Willard, Oh., Amanda Licon of Pueblo, Co.; a brother, Darrel Brown, II of Mansfield, Oh.; maternal grandparents, Mohee (Jack) Barnes of Tx.; loving step-mother, Livonia Brown of Mansfield, Oh. and a loving step-father, Eddie Ohre of Abilene, Tx.; her in-laws, Gilbert Doan of Wooster and Janice Doan of Narberth, Pa.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Visitation will be Monday, July 6, from 4 - 7 p.m. at Custer-Glenn Funeral Home, 2284 Benden Dr. in Wooster and open to the public.

Services will be Tuesday, July 7, at 11:00 a.m. at Church of the Saviour in Wooster with Pastors Brent Durham and Jerry Durham officiating followed by a private interment at Wooster Cemetery in Wooster.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to: Pregnancy Care Center of Wayne County, 142 W. Liberty St. #3a. Wooster, Oh. 44691.

Dear Stephen and Family,

We offer our prayers and condolences with saddened hearts in the loss of Melissa. We pray that each of you will heal and find peace as you go through the grieving process. I was part of a play group with Melissa and a few other ladies when our babies were young (Daniel). Melissa and I would take long walks with Daniel and my Ashley during the fall after they were born. We also went to church together for awhile. I can still hear Melissa's beautiful voice, pure and kind words of comfort, and delightful laughter. She was a beautiful light on this earth and made visible the Christ for all to see. Now , her work in the kingdom continues forever.

I’m so sorry for your loss. May the God of all comfort help you during this difficult time. (2 Corinthians 1:3,4 & Psalms 83:18). Jesus prayed for God’s Kingdom to come because He knew it would intervene to solve all mankind’s problems even sickness and death. (Revelation 21:3,4 & Daniel 2:44).

Oh Melissa, the time with you here seemed so short! Yet during that time, you touched so many hearts including mine. I don’t really remember how or when we became the best of friends, but I know I am so very thankful to have been a part of your life.
Remembering as together over the years, we grew emotionally and spiritually through the Bible studies, discussions, our heart-to-heart talks & more. So often, you knew me better than I knew myself. You respected my need for privacy and honored my introversion. You encouraged me to look for that beautiful sunshine, even in the dark of winters.
Your presence in our family’s lives is immeasurable. We will always remember your exuberant loving greetings, your infectious smile and your encouragement for all six of us ‘Zimms’ over the years.
The long walks & workouts with you when our kids were younger & the cheering on of our sons in sports together as they grew up. The spur of the moment meetings at TJs for a Thurs girls’ night out, as we shared our worries, and joys of their weddings, grandbaby births, and everything in between - and the prayers, oh the prayers we shared! - for one another, our four children each, our spouses and then theirs too ~ and as Evan and Ryan needed us less and less, there were those enjoyable dinners out with you, Steve, Mike & me- the beginnings of our “empty nester” years. These and so many more, are all such cherished memories of how you changed my world.
Throughout the fun & laughter, the hugs, prayers and tears, you were such a beautiful part of our lives and a true best friend to me. I know you’re now dancing and smiling from above. I will love and miss you forever, Melissa ~~~ Until we meet again…
Love, Pam

I had posted this on FB but wanted to share here too.

As I sit here on my porch this evening I am so thankful for everything God has given me. He has not deemed it necessary yet to give me a mate but I know he is out there somewhere. But that is a moot point tonight for today I received some very upsetting news. I sit here thinking how precious life is and how it can be taken away at any moment. A very devout and loving Christian woman was taken from us suddenly. She was not my BFF but I felt very close to her whenever I would be in her presence. She was one of these Christians that everyone should endeavor to be! We did not share much but we shared our name, and whenever we passed one another she would say here’s to “ the Melissa’s” like we were a traveling act, then she’d high 5 me.
I will miss her bubbly personality, her beautiful, infectious smile, her random AMENS in church!
Please pray for the Doan family as these next few weeks (years) will be hard but help them to keep in mind that God never gives us more than we can bare! And that only thru God all things are possible. I am sure Melissa Brown Doan, you are with God and Jesus as I write this and are having the BEST time ever, but we down here will miss you greatly.
High 5 to ya GF and AMEN SISTA!
