Obituary for Sara Elizabeth Judy (Thaxton)

Sara Elizabeth Thaxton Judy (best known as “Sally”)

lived a long and exemplary life - full of love for the Lord, love for family and friends, and love for all of God’s creation. Sally peacefully stepped over into heaven on Thursday, April 15, 2021 following a short period of hospice care in her home. Her daughters were by her side and her friends and family had gathered just days before to celebrate with her on her 100th birthday.

Sally was the youngest of five children, born in Huntington, WV, to Virgil and Lucille (Hawk) Thaxton on April 11,1921. Her family moved to Gallia County in southern Ohio early in her life and she treasured her memories of growing up on the family farm there.

Following graduation from Bidwell High School, Sally received her three-year registered nursing diploma from Holzer School of Nursing. Her career as a registered nurse blessed many patients with her skilled and gentle care here at the Wooster Clinic, as well as in hospitals and doctors’ offices in every place she lived.

Sally met Glen Ernest Judy not long before he joined the Navy. Glen’s courtship by letter throughout his WWII years of service convinced Sally to marry him. They were married on October 6,1946 in Gallipolis, Ohio. They also lived in Columbus and Coshocton before settling into Wooster, where Sally lived in their home for the remainder of her life. Both were active members of West Hill Baptist Church for many years and especially enjoyed the fellowship in Caleb’s Kin. Sally and Glen were married nearly 64 years when he passed away on August 20, 2010.

Sally enjoyed music, gardening, sewing, sketching, writing poetry, bird watching and the affections of her many cats through the years. She challenged herself to read through the Bible every year for many years. Sally especially loved time spent visiting with her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Lynda Dyann (Marvin) Jones of Toledo, Ohio and Debra Judy Ebeling of Elyria, Ohio; grandchildren, Geoffrey (Christina) Ebeling of Ohio, Benjamin (Michelle) Ebeling and Jonathan (Brittney) Ebeling all of North Carolina; eight great-grand children; sisters-in-law, Candace Thaxton of Ohio and Pat Mumford of Arizona; also former son-in-law Terry Ebeling of North Carolina as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her parents and beloved husband, she is preceded in death by her son, Michael Thaxton Judy; a granddaughter, Katie Jones; brothers, Robert Thaxton, Vernon Thaxton and John Thaxton; and her sister, Mary George.

A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, April 23rd, 11:00 a.m. at West Hill Baptist Church in Wooster with Pastor Eric Fairhurst officiating. The service will be followed by a luncheon at the church. At 1:30 those wishing to join the family will proceed to South Lawn Cemetery in Coshocton for burial.

Custer-Glenn Funeral Home in Wooster is honored with serving the family.
