Obituary for Shana Elaine Messer (Erving)

It is with great sadness that the family of Shana Erving Messer, age 49, mother, daughter and sister, share her unexpected passing on October 25, 2020.

She was born at Chanute Air Force Base in Champaign County, Illinois, on August 31, 1971. The daughter of a military family, Shana’s first few years included adventures at various military bases in Okinawa, Japan and Jacksonville, North Carolina, before landing in Columbus, Ohio, where she would make her home, and eventually welcome her beloved daughter.

In 1989, Shana graduated from East High School and Fort Hayes Vocational School in Columbus where she studied surgical technology. Shana worked at various hospitals in the area as a surgical technician, taking great pride in her role on the care team in many operating rooms.

She is survived by her greatest accomplishment and source of joy, daughter Linnie Frances Messer; as well as parents Lora Ament (Ken) and Robert Ament; sisters Lara Lindsay (Duff) and Melissa Vince (Joe); brothers Kris Erving (Michelle) and Jason Erving (Crystal); and uncle, Pete Risley.
Shana will also be forever remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, dear friends, and community of those living with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome.

Because Shana believed passionately that pets give us unconditional love and enrich our lives, donations may be made to Cat Colony Adoption Center at www.ColonyCats.org.

A celebration of life for family and close friends will be held at a later date. As we plan to celebrate Shana’s life, please make it a priority to live yours to the fullest.

Custer-Glenn Funeral Home in Wooster is honored with serving the family.
