Obituary for William G. "Will" Fairhurst

William G. "Will" Fairhurst, age 90 of Wooster, went home with Christ while surrounded by his family at Danbury Senior Living in Wooster.

He was born on November 25, 1932 in Saint Joseph, MO to George Harden and Mildred V. (Acker) Fairhurst.
Will graduated from Wooster High School in 1951 and in his Senior year, won the Rifle Club Award. He then proudly served in the US Army with the 43rd Division as a Corporal during the Korean Conflict.

Following his time in the service, he used his benefits from the G.I. Bill to attend Ohio State University and pursue a degree in Commercial Arts. During this transitional period, he met and married Marlene C. Rensi of Smithfield, OH on December 28, 1957, and began working for various businesses in the Wooster area before moving the family to Alexandria, Virginia to begin a short stint with the Washington D.C police department from 1961 - 1964. Returning to Wooster, Will began a career as a mechanical engineer that spanned the next 36 years at Wooster Fyr-Fyter Co., the Gerstenslager Co., and Magna-Power, Co. in Wooster. After retiring from engineering, Will began driving a tour bus for Pioneer Trails and continued for another fifteen years before concluding his work career at the age of 80.

Will was a long time member of West Hill Baptist Church for over 40 years and enjoyed serving the Lord Jesus in many capacities including Caleb's Kin, Deacon Board, Bus Ministry, Greeter, and Nursing Home Chapel Ministries. Will was a military enthusiast, life-time member of the NRA since 1969, and a true historian who was passionate regarding his love of our nation and appreciation of God's hand in our development. He enjoyed bicycling with family members, was an avid motorcyclist touring the country with his wife BJ, and loved hunting small game. In his final years, he and BJ have enjoyed worship at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Will is survived by his beloved wife, BJ Fairhurst whom he married on April 17, 1999 at West Hill Baptist Church in Wooster; his sons, Eric (Becky) Fairhurst of Wooster, OH., Mark (Cathy) Fairhurst of Englewood, OH., and Kirk (Donna) Fairhurst of Creston, OH., Step-children, Shannon Delaney of Wooster, Ryan (Debbie) Delaney of Findlay, OH.; grandchildren, Brianna (Alex) Tichenor, Michale (Justin) Piatt, Eric Fairhurst, Katherine (Caleb) Middlestetter, Beka Fairhurst, Will Fairhurst, Anthony (Rachel) Fairhurst, Grant (Colleen) Fairhurst, and David (Sarah) Fairhurst, step-grandchildren, Grant (Becca) Delaney, Reid (Elizabeth) Delaney, Blake (Elizabeth) Delaney and Drew Delaney and his fiance, Megan Wright; Step-Grandchildren Ashley (Zach) Fedynich, and Adrian Evans; 14 great-grandchildren; many other extended Rensi family, and a host of friends.

In addition to his parents and first wife, Marlie, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Harold, Homer and Carl Fairhurst.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 2nd from 5:00-8:00pm at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 7605 E. Pleasant Home Rd., in Sterling, and one hour prior (10:00 am - 11:00 am) to the services on Friday.

Services will take place on Friday, March 3, 2023, 11:00 am at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Pastors Stephen Olsen, Mark Barrios, Eric, and Kirk Fairhurst officiating.

Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery where military honors will also be conducted.
